Brad Goldpaint light paints Valley of Fire

"In the Dream" - photographed in the Valley of Fire, Nevada ~ © Brad Goldpaint (click for larger view)
Brad Goldpaint created our Photo of the Day at the Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada. That's Venus on the horizon and a very low, almost horizontal, winter Milky Way.

This image resonated almost immediately with viewers when it was posted on 500px, February 15th —reaching the site's highest "pulse" rating of 99.9 within only a few hours. Al Oliver wrote the comments echoed by many that day: "Turn off the lights. Night photography got to the top, the summit, heaven, mount Olympus, with this shot. The best I've seen ever, and I'm sure I'm not the only one to think like that. Extraordinary!"

A.M. Ruttle also mirrored the feelings of many others: "So tactile, so beautiful, and your image becomes elegant with the words of Emerson. Bravo, Brad."
Teach me your mood, O patient stars! Who climb each night, the ancient sky. Leaving on space no shade, no scars, no trace of age, no fear to die.  – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Our Photo of the Week was taken by Miles Morgan on a cold October morning with his friend Ryan Dyar, who had pre-scouted these unique hills near the Eastern Sierras of California. Miles used a Nikon D800E with a Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 lens @ 24mm. Exposure was 20 seconds @ f/2.8, ISO 1600.

Miles Morgan is an airline pilot out of Portland, Oregon who doubles as an amateur fine art landscape photographer. More of Miles' work can be seen on his 500px page and his website.
